The chef, who asked to keep his name out of the initial public complaint, says the organization stopped responding to his invoices after a series of events it hosted earlier this year. He has now filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Attorney General's Office, hoping to recover the money he says he is rightfully owed.

According to the chef, the arrangement started smoothly. He was hired to provide food for a handful of community gatherings and fundraisers, and the first couple of payments came through without issue. But then, he says, the checks stopped. After the last event, he sent multiple invoices and followed up with phone calls and emails, but the nonprofit went silent. The chef says he is not trying to publicly shame the organization, but he feels he has no other option.
