Dylan Dreyer got a fresh perspective on parenting this week when her children responded to some commonly criticized phrases in an unexpectedly wholesome way. The "Today" meteorologist shared the story during the Thursday, May 14 episode, revealing that her kids took the so-called "toxic parenting phrases" in a positive light.
Dreyer explained that she had been reading about certain expressions that experts warn can be harmful to children, such as "because I said so" or "you're okay." Curious to see how her own kids would react, she tested a few of them out. To her surprise, instead of feeling scolded or dismissed, her children offered heartwarming interpretations.
One of her kids reportedly responded to a firm directive by simply nodding and saying, "Okay, Mom, I trust you." Another child, when told "you're okay" after a minor fall, replied, "I know, I just needed a hug." Dreyer said the experience reminded her that the intent behind the words matters just as much as the words themselves, and that her kids feel secure enough to hear them with love. The moment left her feeling grateful for the strong bond they share.
