Jason Kelce's Parenting Leave Comments Spark Backlash

Former Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce is catching criticism online after sharing his thoughts on paternity leave and the division of parenting duties. During a recent episode of his podcast, Kelce made remarks that some listeners interpreted as reinforcing outdated gender roles, prompting a wave of backlash across social media.

While discussing the challenges of raising young children, Kelce suggested that his own experience with parental leave was less about taking time off and more about supporting his wife, Kylie, who he described as the primary caregiver. He went on to say that for many fathers, the first few months after a baby arrives can feel less essential, since the mother is often handling feeding and the bulk of nighttime wake-ups. He added that dads might feel like they are "just there to help" rather than being an equal partner in those early weeks.

Critics were quick to respond. One popular reply on X read, "Just say you think mom is the parent and dad is the optional helper." Others pointed out that Kelce's comments ignore the many families where both parents work, or where the father is the primary caregiver. Several parenting experts also weighed in, noting that dismissing a father's role in the newborn stage can hurt both the dad and the baby, and that bonding is not limited to feeding.

Kelce has not yet responded to the criticism. This is not the first time the retired athlete has made headlines for his family takes, but the strong reaction suggests that many listeners expect more progressive views from public figures, especially one known for his hands-on image with his own three daughters.
