Partner and I live in different countries; good for relationship, kids

For many couples, living apart is a temporary hardship. For me and my partner, it is a choice that strengthens our bond and benefits our children. We live in different countries, and we are in no hurry to change that.

We both came into this relationship with kids from previous marriages. That changes everything. Uprooting a child from their school, friends, and other parent is not something we take lightly. Our long-distance setup lets us maintain stability for our families while still building our own life together. We take turns visiting each other, usually for a week or two at a time. Those visits feel like mini-vacations. We are fully present with each other, without the daily grind of chores or parenting arguments. The kids get to see us happy, and they get to keep their routines.

People often ask when we will finally move in together. The truth is, we might not. The distance forces us to communicate better. We plan our calls, we talk through disagreements carefully, and we never take each other for granted. For the kids, it means less conflict and more stability. They see two adults who respect each other's lives and commitments. It is not the traditional path, but for us, it is the right one.
