Dorset Police are calling on parents to take greater responsibility for their children's actions, following confirmation that most of the people involved in last week's disorder on Bournemouth Beach were minors. The incident, which drew a significant police response, saw large groups of young people gathering and engaging in anti-social behavior, leading to multiple arrests and reports of public disturbance.
Authorities have stated that the majority of those detained or identified during the unrest were under the age of 18. This has prompted a direct appeal from law enforcement, urging guardians to know where their children are and what they are doing, especially during school holidays and warm weather when large crowds gather at the coast.
"Parents and carers have a vital role to play in ensuring their children understand the consequences of their actions," a police spokesperson said. "We are not looking to criminalize young people unnecessarily, but we will not tolerate violence, disorder, or behavior that puts others at risk."
The force has confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and several youths have been referred to youth offending services. Local community leaders have also weighed in, stressing the need for better supervision and constructive activities for teenagers during the summer break. Police patrols along the seafront have been increased to prevent further incidents, but officers emphasize that lasting change starts at home.
