Sav-A-Life in Lanett Marks 40 Years of Free Pregnancy Support

Sav-A-Life in Lanett is celebrating four decades of service to expectant parents, marking 40 years of providing free pregnancy services, parenting education and ongoing support across the community.

The organization has built its work around practical help for families facing unexpected pregnancies. Services include pregnancy testing, options counseling and classes that prepare new parents for the demands of raising a child. Material assistance such as diapers, clothing and other baby supplies has long been part of the support offered to clients.

Over the years, staff and volunteers have worked with thousands of individuals, many of whom arrived uncertain about their next steps. The center describes its approach as confidential and nonjudgmental, with the goal of giving parents the information and resources they need to make decisions for their families.

Parenting education remains a core part of the mission. Participants can attend classes on child development, infant care and financial planning, often earning credits that can be used toward needed items for their babies. The model is designed to encourage steady involvement while easing some of the financial pressure that comes with a new child.

Community members have sustained the work through donations, volunteer hours and church partnerships. Organizers say that local backing has been essential to keeping services free for anyone who walks through the door.

As the ministry enters its fifth decade, leaders say the need for support has not faded. They plan to continue offering one-on-one guidance, group classes and material aid while looking for ways to reach more families in the surrounding area. Anniversary activities this year will recognize longtime volunteers and the generations of parents who have relied on the center since it opened.
