‘The home they love the most’: Parenting coach shares 5 thoughtful lessons every parent should teach their child before visiting nani’s home

For many of us, the most cherished childhood memories involve long summer days at our nani's (maternal grandmother's) home. That place taught us what true warmth and endless comfort felt like. Times have changed, but the tradition of families spending summer vacations at nani's house remains strong.

For parents who want to raise grateful children, this vacation is a perfect chance to teach kids how to give back to a place that offers unconditional love and lifelong memories. Recently, parenting coach Gurpreet Kaur shared a heartfelt reminder for families heading to nani's home this summer. Through a series of thoughtful suggestions, she explained how children can show love, respect, and appreciation for the home they love the most.

Here are five lessons every parent should teach their child before the visit:

First, teach them to help without being asked. Kids can offer to set the table, water the plants, or simply pick up their own toys. Small acts of service show gratitude.

Second, encourage them to listen to stories. Nani and nana have a lifetime of experiences. Sitting down and asking about their childhood or old photos teaches patience and respect.

Third, remind them to say thank you. Whether it is for a favorite meal or a new toy, a simple "thank you" goes a long way in making elders feel appreciated.

Fourth, teach them to be mindful of the house rules. Every home has its own rhythm. Respecting nap times, meal times, and household customs shows maturity.

Finally, help them understand the value of time. Put away screens and be fully present. The best gift a child can give is their undivided attention.

These lessons turn a simple vacation into a meaningful experience for the whole family.
